MANDALEG

The mandala is one of the oldest religious symbols. It can be seen in many of the world's religions as well as for meditation in other spiritual directions. The psychologist Carl Gustav Jung used them in connection with the treatment of his clients.

The mandala has also found its way into our contemporary everyday life in the form of colouring books, a popular way to practise a little mindfulness.

The mandala apparently has a certain power of fascination, and it can reportedly affect one's mental state, either when studying a finished mandala or as its creator. Tokyo Blue, together with Kulturpiloterne Amager, set about to discover the captivating force of the mandala.
MANDALEG was first shown on a ballpark fence in Remiseparken during the Copenhagen Light Festival 2023 and again in an adapted 3-dimensional version for the theatre ZeBU and Børnekulturhus Ama'r's annual sensory Christmas calendar "24 Secrets". Mandaleg was developed at a workshop together with a group of young people from Kulturpiloterne Amager.

The work consisted of UV-reactive string mounted on a high wire fence and UV lamps, which together formed a luminous, large scale mandala.

Materials: UV reactive string and UV lamps.
Realized: February and again in November/December 2023.
Client: Kulturpiloterne Amager
